Well after the excitement of last week’s Grand National, we get the watered down version in Ayr, Scotland. Yes it’s the Scottish Grand National this weekend and studying the form has driven me to drink! In fact I’m now a real Al Co! Did you see what I did there?
Yes I know I put him up last week to win the National but let’s be honest that was an actual disaster. He jumped the first fence fine, but then had to sidestep the stricken Ely Brown, which he nimbly did, only to be struck into by First Lieutenant. This secondary incident led to jockey D. O’Regan being unshipped. I was crying into my Jack Daniels let me tell you that for free.
Poor Denis has been replaced this week by, son of the trainer, Sean Bowen. He is a jockey going places and hopefully tomorrow he is guiding our friend Al Co into the winners enclosure.
Obviously there are numerous dangers, but who cares about them! If you’re buying me a drink I’ll have a large Jack please with some ice.
There is another big betting heat over at Newbury, the Spring Cup. A huge field over the straight mile where the draw and pace will no doubt have a bearing.
Poor old Bronze Angel looks to have been dealt a rotten hand again with stall 1 and he could be left stranded over that side. If there is some pace around him though, he may get cover and will run a big race, so have a saver on him.
However, the pick has to be the Lincoln winner, Gabrial. This horse in my opinion is an out and out miler . The owner on the other hand seems intent on messing about sending him over 10f etc. Please Dr. Koukash, leave him at 1m. He is still relatively unexposed over 1m but his last 2 runs over that trip have both produced wins and he looks like he is finally getting his act together now. He is still on the upgrade and looks the 1 to be on.
So the drink will be flowing in General Towers after a successful days’ betting. Pop in and I’ll return the Jack Daniels.
