Royal Ascot 2014 – Day 2 – Wednesday 18th June

By | June 18, 2014

Day 2 of Royal Ascot 2014 has a lot to live up to after yesterdays explosion of talent, that meant a great day for the punters and the crowning of a genuine superstar in Kingman.

Tuesday was exactly the opening day we expected as Domination kicked us into profit with a great 12/1 success and it was hats off to F. Berry on his only mount. He is a fantastic jockey who regularly does the business for us.

Before Domiantion we were blessed with the best older miler Toronado, the best sprinter Sole Power and the best 3yo miler Kingman all strutting their stuff. These 3 are all top of their divisions and with suitable conditions in the future it’s hard to envisage defeat for them this season.

One other noteworthy performance came from Frankie on The Wow Signal. It was clear to my eye early on that there wasn’t too much pace on (in fact it was the only race on the straight course to not break standard) and yet Hughes, Spencer and O’Brien were anchored at the rear of the field whilst Frankie was in the front forcing the pace. Although the others made up some ground towards the end, they couldn’t make up enough and Frankie and The Wow Signal ran out cosy winners.

So onto today and again it is a mix of group races, handicaps and the great unknown of the 2yo races. I’m once again quite happy to sit back and enjoy some great horses battle it out.

I’m really looking forward to watching Treve, Magician and The Fugue lock horns in the 3.45 the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. What a great battle this should be. All top performers in their own right and this will be the best race of the day.

The opener at 2.30 the Jersey Stakes doesn’t appear to have any edge in the betting and I’m happy to leave this alone as i am with most of the races today.

In fact there is only 1 race that concerns me and that is the 5.00 the Royal Hunt Cup. The draw didn’t seem to make much difference yesterday and as long as the sheep don’t over think this today, the draw shouldn’t be a problem again. I like horses with proven form at Ascot and horses that can win good races, as I think that stands them in good stead here. As this is the only race I’m betting in today I’m more than happy to suggest 3 horses at decent prices.

Don’t forget that bet365 are promising to match the best prices on all races at Ascot and have the Channel 4 4/1+ price promise on offer too, so head on over and get yourself the best deals for the best races.
